Executive Director

Job Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for both the operational and strategic aspects of our programs and initiatives. Furthermore, they will have a critical role in establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, collaborating with the Board of Directors to ensure they have the tools required to meet the organization’s objectives, leading community engagement initiatives, securing funding, overseeing financial activities, and devising and executing marketing and communication plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead community action planning and engagement initiatives in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Develop short and long-term goals and priorities, with the aim of achieving favorable outcomes.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement effective policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the requirements of a non-profit corporation are met and the organization is up-to-date in the ISC Corporate Registry.
  • Coordinate Board Meetings, prepare Board packages, and record meeting minutes.
  • Work with the accountant to supervise the financial aspects of the company, which includes managing operational budgets in preparing accurate forecasting reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Secure funding through the creation of funding proposals and reports.
  • Work with accountant and auditor to carry out a financial audit.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with various groups, including government agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations, to plan and execute community programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure that the recruitment, direction, and supervision of contract workers and consultants align with the Board’s approvals and directions.
  • Develop an Annual Report.
  • Develop and execute an all-inclusive marketing and communication strategy that blends various mediums to achieve the organization’s goals.

  • Strong understanding of leadership and management principles.
  • Proven experience collaborating with committees and Board of Directors.
  • Strategic decision-making abilities and a forward-thinking approach to organization development.
  • Exceptional communication and marketing skills and the capability to represent the company publicly.
  • Strong administrative abilities and excellent organizational, resource capacity planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong knowledge of financials.
  • In-depth understanding of Indigenous rights, history, culture, and current socioeconomic issues.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.

Education:

  • At a minimum, a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Studies, or Commerce, in combination with five or more years of senior management experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree or equivalent related work experience and professional development.
